Pet Freedom is a free, open-source tool that researches and publishes the legal status of a pet species across the world: whether you can keep, breed, sell, or transport it, country by country and state by state, with the official source for every answer. We built it to map the law for our own unusual companion, the roof rat, and it works for any species.

How it works
Pet Freedom is a skill for Claude Code (Anthropic’s AI coding assistant). You tell it the species and your WordPress site, and it researches each place from official sources, verifies every claim against the law itself, and publishes a clean, source-cited resource. It is species-agnostic (you set the species in one config file) and privacy-preserving: your credentials and private notes stay on your own machine, and the published pages show only public-safe facts.
Where a rule looks unfair, it can also build a plain-language advocacy toolkit that explains the real lever and who to ask, so people can make the case for fairer rules themselves.

It is free and open source, a gift from the roof-rat community. It is a research aid, not legal advice: laws change and are interpreted by local officials, so every page tells you to confirm with the official source.
