The Rat’s Run

Her name is Love, she is locked out, and the whole backyard is between her and home. She starts at the back fence. She starts in zone one, The Fences, and all four zones are built: the Fences, the Fish Pond, the Stream and the Clothesline, and the Tree Canopy.

Arrow keys or A / D to move. Z or space to jump – hold it longer to jump higher. Down to duck. R restarts, M mutes. On a phone or tablet, use the buttons on screen. Pick the difficulty on the title screen: mild, medium or spicy. It changes how fast the animals move and how long they warn you, never where the fences and the gaps are.

Follow the sunflower seeds – they trace the intended line through every jump.

Three keepsakes are hidden off that line, and they are the point of the whole thing. They are objects her person lost out here as a child: a bottle cap flicked over the fence, a marble that rolled under the boards, a ring somebody looked for until it got dark. Love is bringing them home as a gift. The more of them you find, the happier he is at the end – and bringing back all three unlocks the real Love, on film.

Your time, your seeds and your falls become a grade, and your best run is remembered per difficulty.
