The baby was looking at me like, why aren't you petting me? They're curious like that. One of these girls is actually bigger than her mama now, and those other two are the babies. I had to separate the boys because they're 58 days old, and obviously you don't want any accidents to happen. So how can you tell the difference between these guys and Norway rats? Well, they look longer, and their tails are a lot longer, longer even than the body. Look at that, it's really super long. The ears are bigger and more pointed too.
They have kind of a mousey appearance, they look a little bit like big mice, but they're not mice. And you can see the nose is more pointed. Funny thing, they're almost the same color as our dog. We've got a yellow Labrador, and he was curious about them too. I like these girls, they're really nice. They're still calm and friendly, but the females are more active than the males, so if you want to give them a face rub or something, they're a little bit less patient. Honestly, I do think that in a way the males are more social, but the females are also nice.
Our cat came over too, like, hello, what's that? Obviously you don't want to let them play with the cat. I'm sure they knew the cat was there, but they didn't look like they were trying to run away, and they didn't look agitated. That's because they're really very genetically tame. We've been breeding these guys for quite a long time now, and they're very tame and calm. I don't think Tommy would hurt them, but let's not test that theory. At one point the cat was rubbing her head on me, which was ridiculous. One of them has a white tail tip, like the cat, and that one's a baby too.
So they actually have at least two different mutations. They have the color, so they're blonde, and they have the white tail tip, which is a marking. So they're like a dilute with a white marking. And if you look at the colors carefully, one of them seems a little darker than the other. One of the babies was just sitting there cleaning himself, or herself, sorry. That is a really good baby. They are so calm, I can't believe it. I'm really impressed.
